BTW: It looks like the ships have lost their color palettes and device groups - I guess that’s probably the best you can do.
Do you have any guidelines on how many ships you consider ok to dock? Docking is a pretty integral component of gameplay - banning it outright seems like it would considerably detract from the game.

That’s a common mod API bug.
The colors will be normal again once you put it on a repairbay. Or try to use the Color palette of your color tool.
No, it’s random. I just go with the hardcore approach to keep frustration for everyone involved to the minimum.
We are hunting this bug since 2 years without success yet.
I honestly spent over 20 hours alone to try to make it reproducible for the developers - without success. On my local server docking worked fine so it’s very hard to catch so far.
It looked like the templates may have been old, so I was scared to repair to template.
However, I found and successfully used a procedure to copy the palettes from a single-player game to my ship on the HWS server.
For others who might be trying to do the same:
Right-click your texture tool while pointing at the ship you want to copy the palette from.
Select “Configure” on the bottom right of the window
Hold down shift and click on the bottom right color box in the palette - this should select all of the colors
Push the “Copy” button on the right-hand window
Go to a text editor and paste the contents of the clipboard - you may want to save the file for later use

Now, switch to the game where you want to set the palette
Get to the palette window the same way as above (right-click, select “configure”)
Now copy the text that you saved (if the string is still on your clipboard from earlier, you can skip this step)
Switch back to the game and select the “Paste” button - if everything went well, the palette should be updated
