This was one of the fundamental issues with Offline protection for the longest time, and why HWS is only now bring it back online. If Offline Protected structures do not fire, people can just surround them with bases, turrets, hv’s, etc, and wait for someone to log back in to die. The infinite ammo firing combats this. The issue becomes when that ammo is not used to keep enemies at bay, and is instead protecting people who are ONLINE.
Was only half joking about removing the IFF on structures that are on OLP, but a more conservative solution would just be to drastically reduce the fire rate of these structures when OLP is active. A shot every minute or so per gun will keep people from loitering around for extended periods, and prevent the whole come back online ambush, but is not enough to make each OLP tower a super weapon.
Just an idea.
It’s a good idea, the one I thought of is using only cannon turrets, not enough to do serious damage but enough to keep those from loitering around.
Limiting block count on class sizes would help as well.
The main reason why we need OLP right now is because of how easy it is to take a base when it’s not being actively defended.
Limit SV/HV to 1500 blocks for class 1 (or something) and CVs to 2500 blocks for class 1 (or something), that way you can’t just go in and tank with a CV/SV etc…
The not so easy way of balancing PvP is by balancing weight/block/thruster/fuel consumption. Aka, the bigger the ship the more thrusters required, the more fuel consumed etc… and balancing out just how much fuel should be consumed at what size.
Let’s say Class 5 SV is 15k blocks, but you have to put tons of thrusters in to make it fly on planet, so you have to go through a stack of fusion every 10 - 15 minutes. It would make the fuel cost of running those tanky svs very difficult.
All this fuss about this.

@RexXxuS Might I offer a suggestion/experiment to try? It seems that recently 90% of the pvp going on NA GG is outside of prime time. Okay EU players want to come over, maybe their is not a lot of pvp on EU right now or they only want ‘easy pvp’ to catch a single player online during the morning in NA time, whatever…
Can we try switching it up and making it so outside of prime time you cannot bring down CVs and only during prime time you can bring down/spawn CVs? It might promote actual players fighting during prime time more instead of a majority packing up and/or logging off for the day during off hours.

Would be new to me but switch would just mean that NA vs NA will be a CV planet mess again.
I would rather shut down CVs on GG / HW completely.

I like the idea honestly. Remove all CVs or give them warning before they are taken for the ones currently there and restrict all CVs from entering, I’m OK with that.

I forgot to explain the mixup that led to us blowing up in Offline Protection on GG. We had just allied with OP4 and went to join a battle, they left without telling us and when we retreated to their bases there was another alliance of theirs there that we were not allied with. Long story short we got srewed. In a moment of panic I ran into the OP to see what would happen, I have never seen it before as we play on our own server. I cannot take away that it was a ‘dick’ move, but it was not planned and was a moment of panic. We never retreived our packs.
