What happened:
=> My 6 O2 generators and 6 water generators were removed from the game, even though I only accessed them hours ago, and at the time added 4O2 gens to the existing 2.

No, you would have to pick them up yourself before the terrain was reset (assuming today was a reset day) otherwise they are deleted by the game automatically.
Terrain placeables (like water generator, portable constructor, autominer, etc) will be deleted by the game when the terrain is reset. You have to check the map on every planet to learn if the terrain resets and what days it resets on.
Yes however my 4 constructors, which were placed before those devices, were not deleted! I went and picked those up in fear of losing them. They are not expensive to me, but it didn’t make any sense.
