I created an account as i wanted to make a thread about the tackling rule but since this is already here I would like to chime in. I’m not going to discuss the incident that spurred this thread so please set that aside when responding to me as I’d like to have a discussion to improve the rule for all parties involved on the server. For clarity sake I am a member of TAW who recently migrated to the server.
Clipping and ramming is going to happen because of the nature of the game(netcode, connectivity, server stability, ect.) and Alpha. While I think we should have a rule I think it should be modified. I don’t really want to have to contend with or see a lot of posts where people are claiming rule breaking because a SV clips into a CV for 20 seconds or a CV is on top of a SV for 20 seconds.
There needs to be additional entry added and I would like to suggest the following. Always come with a solution if you want to raise an issue! We need to add some additional verbiage to make it clear so we don’t have tons of posts and punishments being handed out for clipping or landing on a ship by accident for a few seconds a few times and clearly being seen to extract oneself from the situation.
Tackling
Do not tackle with your ships (parking your SV to an enemy CV or clipping inside another vessel). This notion of ‘tackling’ is considered an exploit and is an ILLEGAL tactic when used intentionally to disable or hinder movement of a vessel. “Tackling” is defined as REPEATEDLY clipping into another ship(3-4+ times) in a short time period. It is also defined as REPEATEDLY using a ship to keep another ship from moving for an extended period of time(15-30 seconds) while not attempting to move away from or extract your vessel from the other players.
Obvious tackling, for example flying into a hanger and sitting will be automatically trigger punishment. If you aren’t making a move to stop accidental tackling punishment will be immediate.
NOTE: When reporting violations, you MUST include video or screenshot evidence. Also note that if it is just once or twice and isn’t being done repeatedly over an extended period of time and you report tackling there may be punishment handed down for wasting the staff and players time. If you believe someone is abusing the “time and occurrence” requirements collect video over several occurrences and submit the proof showing a pattern of abuse.
END OF RULE CHANGE
I think this addition is a good add to the rule-set and clearly defines tackling. I don’t want to see someone who clips into a ship once or twice and is seen to be trying to remove themselves or someone who for a few seconds has pinned another ship getting these threads thrown up or whining in game chat.
@Dawg The only time I’ve ever been perma banned was for calling out a Admin using his powers to Blueprint my PVP builds and fly them. Please don’t trash talk my name when you have no clue who I am. Here is link to video of reason to why I was banned on that server- https://youtu.be/oZ8sLA2qS1E
There was one other time. Remember the “lag exploiting” they banned both of us for?
6 drop down towers and I’m rocking a 1/3rd of an ice cat with the core hanging out, all turrets stopped firing on the play field except the ones manually controlled. So I was knocking out the bases at the bottom with a single HV arty turret. After that we retreated for the night and the next day banned for 100 years. He threatened to turn us in to eleon and the story continues from there… completely unfounded.
Why not take this convo to empyrion forums where the devs can actually do something about it, no point it being here, it really is logical don’t land on someones ship unless its been de-cored if you bump into it move in the opposite direction. If both parties follow that logic no one will get stuck and there would be no issues.
A better idea might be to 24 hour ban the person reporting the abuse and committing the abuse then no one in their right mind would even attempt it and no one in their right mind would try fake it to get someone in trouble either people would just avoid it.
I wholeheartedly agree, if it’s obvious the offending party is intending to clip then a punishment should be handed out. That said, with today’s CV to CV combat you need to be able to ram an enemy CV to stop it’s movement, that way you can prevent them from warping out. I’ve been in 30+ minute CV fights only to have an enemy warp away.

Tackling: Only applies to an enemy SV landing ontop of or inside of a SV with the intent of immbolizing.
Ramming and colliding with an enemy vessel, outisde of SV to CV does have a strategic purpose, which is to control their movement and cut off their escape route.
What I’m not sure about is the whole getting entagled and clipping inside of each other, realistically the only solution is to ban any contact from enemy structures… but this sort of hard rule would make PvP quite stale. To be frank, because this being more an issue with netcode/lag I am not sure what to propose here.
Currently, we are discussing this server’s rule regarding tackling, not providing suggestions for improvement that have already been brought to Eleon’s attention. The server can change rules quickly, Eleon will have to launch a patch which will take a longer amount of time.
I remember Colin doing this to Snake in 6.0, I only know of it because it was literally admitted to during chat. Colin was getting so upset that Snake was just spinning and flying backwards into deep space with his CV and he couldn’t catch him. So they were trying to tackle him and eventually did with SVs, we asked hopskotch about it the day after and Colin and other op4 members said it was a pve only rule, and hopskotch agreed. So we dropped it… edit: i was on discord with snake at the time and i was looking at the rules and saw that so i told him to record, and it had no mention of being pve only but we didnt want to argue with the admin when we asked later. Not sure if he recorded it though.
He was banned over calling out bs. Admin didn’t want that rap and others started to notice. Quick way to cause players to leave.
Imagine the thought that all your personal, best designs that you have, is now in someone else’s hands without your permission. Next thing you know they know your design, build style, all your weak areas, and they are now letting everyone else access to that bp. You may think it’s not of much value, but in game your bp in many cases are worth more than gold.
I’m glad Taco said it before I could, A blueprint that I built from scratch is like a piece of artwork that I don’t want anyone getting and I try my best not to let anyone get them. In PVP cases. If you lose a ship and the enemy captures it… by all means it’s going to be upsetting but that’s how it goes.
Seeing somebody’s ship as an admin, Liking the look of it… Bp’ing it without permission and “Re painting it/Spawning it in” is far more upsetting and disrespectful on another level. I had 0 drama in the server and I only went there to kill stuff, Which I did. It was wrong and anyone who has brain knows it was wrong…
I understand you but you were direspectful to the admin, you could ask politely to destroy the ship like he told you he was going to but instead you started by saying the server is going to have issues and flooded the chat with rage.
Maybe we need some kind of insurance, losing money for unintended SV tackling or any other exploit you’re involved without knowning. Instead of getting banned your insurance money is transfered to the player complaining.
That admin was full of **** thou (could see there with his all mighty attitude) and colin pointed it out, have to agree with colin on that, and in pvp if you loose your ship they only get tiny part of your bp, getting the whole thing fresh is just wrong.
