Why so many non meaningful NPC's walking around?

every friendly poi seems to have a bunch of npc people and creatures walking around apparently doing nothing more important than wasting bandwidthy. would getting rid of them help reduce lag further? obviously teh ones standing there selling stuff are great but they are one in 10.

can you specify:

  • which NPCs?
  • where?

All of the NPC Traders will change in HWS 9, at least this is known for me.

(They don’t consume bandwidth by the way)

I think what he means is the bug where when a friendly POI “Resets” it does not delete old NPC’s but still spawns more new ones

i remember last season some of the farm diner POI;s on Zion used to get full to the brim with NPC’s

I actually think hes just talking about the regular NPC alien deco things. Like the cyborgs or just aliens that walk around that don’t do much unless you shoot them.

Personally, I think they add a lot of atmosphere and the structures would feel empty without them.

the problem is/was that you could have maybe 3-4 deco’s placed, but they seemed to respawn a lot so ended up flooding POI’s

its the same sorta principle with NPC traders and them spawning on top of each other untill there are 10 or so in one spot

if they arent slowing the game down i dont oject to them, and i’m talking about for instance those humanoids walking around all over pizza place for instance on ecc planet. now if other , hostile npc’s were to attack them, and they try to defend…and it all means something… that would be fun to be involved in as a player. obviously they can already defend themselves, at least some of them… so the only change would be to have them come under attack now and then by something. thanks rexx! and thanks for building all this.

Pretty sure they are being processed, only when player walks into proximity.

Just because they are not meaningful to you does not mean that they don’t lead meaningful existences. Some of these NPCs may have families that depend on them. Think of the children!

Imagine their little Alien faces at Christmas if NPC Daddy got deleted? “Alien Mom, where is Alien Dad?”, “Sorry kids, a real person didn’t like the look of him and he got erased from existence”… The horror…
