You’re not unlucky. In this case, the reason is that you use GeForce NOW. It’s not officially supported by Eleon.
Therefore it’s a lot more likely to cause bugs, which is also why we in our “Will you recieve help?” documentation have the following:

If you play via Geforce Now we can’t help you at all. It’s a system Eleon does not support at all so you do it at your own risk and accept the losses automatically. (Only exception would be video proof again)

So, sorry, we can’t help here. I’d highly advise you to play Empyrion directly from Steam. Then we can help for future bugs (which become a lot less common for you).
