HWS 4.0 / Alpha 4.0 prepare yourself!

decisions decisions :stuck_out_tongue:

They canā€™t activate the thing partially, itā€™s not designed that way.
I wouldnā€™t dare criticize their tool tho, they wrote it themselves which is a feat in itself.

Personally Iā€™m selling my AM. Finally a reason to get out and play the game, with network optimization

I just hope at this point they donā€™t reactivate it because Eleon AM sucks. Lost of wasted resources.

Any thoughts on faction balancing? Weā€™re admittedly fairly new to the server and the game itself - but we cannot think of any compelling reason to join the pirate faction over staying lawless.

The ability for us to attack an enemy CV, replace the core and warp it to PVE space to loot and salvage it in peace is pretty hard to beat. Never mind that it lets us have a fallback CV in case our primary CV is destroyed (again).

Really I donā€™t think any supply package is going to make me want to give up all access to PvE space - so maybe that needs to be loosened up a bit?

We will look at faction rebalancing at its own like OCD cooldown, supply packages etc.

But 4.0 will change anyways a lot so we need to look very closely how the overall game meta will change needs and complaints.

This topic is no longer a banner. It will no longer appear at the top of every page.

At least weā€™ll have a warning before the wipe this time around

After witnessing the rise and fall of some factions, I think itā€™s time we looked at potential balancing for AM (if itā€™s Eleon or HWS), OCD, and other tools. The way it is right now seems to give too much imo. Not to say an excess of ore is bad, but it should be conceivable that there is a ā€œlossā€ of losing everything. Maybe some may disagree, but I feel like thereā€™s no way to ā€œloseā€ in HWS if you use the tools available to you. So whatā€™s the point of fighting other factions if they canā€™t actually be destroyed? Just some things to think about.

The fighting obviously.

The fact that itā€™s fairly easy to get up even after getting kicked is what makes this game tolerable.

The AM is a fantastic equalizer. It doesnā€™t matter if you play 16 hours a day our just 2. You are never going to find yourself 100% screwed like you could in say ARK.

My only complaint with the AM is that I think the rank 1 shouldnā€™t use fuel at all to help out newbies and higher ranks should cost way more.

the problem is that some factions will be untouchable in the new 4.0 world, which means why even play as pirate, lawless? if we are gonna have this never ending pve zones, i mean i am one person and not even once has someone been able to beat me to the point of not having an base or ship, i am just one person, so why cant others be like me? i am just humanā€¦

I agree with your changes to AM, for most newbies itā€™s hard to figure out and many wonā€™t have an abundance of BC until later on. The AM should cost exponentially more than it does, given that people can get credits like candy, however I think bank interest should be nerfed, a flat 3% per day adds up fast.

I think bank interest just needs to go away.

It just makes the ultra rich untouchable. I meanā€¦they donā€™t even need to mine. They could buy everything with their daily interest.

Eh, I think it can be a useful tool for newbies to get a boost on their income, but your right, for the rich it makes them unstoppable. I think at a certain balance cap the interest should go away.

If we wanted newbies to have an income boost, then maybe thrown them more than 700 credits - I donā€™t think anyone who has a million today got there thanks to the daily interest of 3%.

I mean yeah the 700c is nice - gets me the T2 miner. But come on, 1 gold metorite is ~50-100k - so no newbie benefits from the interest.

The only way Iā€™d be OK with interest if it worked in the form of a CD.

You lose access to your money, and get 5% back a week later.

Could also cap interest, 3% up to a payout of 10k etc.

I did originally think it needs a cap but when i spoke to Rex i very quickly saw why it is essential for 4.0

Faction planets, you have to pay rent to live there, even for a small 2000k base with 100 devices and 10 rp you pay 20k a day in rent. Without the interest you will be forever mining gold, which considering no AM now that gets rid of your 50k a day, Eleon AM isnt any where near as effective and even with modification still wont be. Also gold wont be on more than 1 maybe two planets in 4.0, so not as common to get.

I am very rich in game through months and months of mining and selling, plus now the interest keeps adding, but the very rich are few and far between, every wipe people lose most of it. Yes you can keep with donator package but how many people are actually doing that in the grand scheme of things?

Yes the rich get richer and possibly a less amount should be received the higher you get, but it is essential to allow new and upcoming players to be able to grow and one day be rich themselvesā€¦You cap it, people aint going to get any richer without putting in a lot of hours and rich people will continue to be rich anyway because they can control the market if it came to it.

I will have a 10k base with 500 devices in 4.0 and pay around 300k a day, how long could I keep that up for without interest helping a bit. is that not incentive to get rich, you can have 1 base safe from weekly wipe, from enemy and its not some small thing its an empire, you get there through hours and hours of playing the game and with a lot of help of AM and interest. Now your just banking on interest so id be fortunate you still have that

Otherwise its a long road to go downā€¦weā€™d also have a lot of empty faction planetsā€¦

As long as there is a struggle to achieve, and many different things to do to survive, I will be happy and continue to play. Making a game too easy (like the auto-miner), might seem cool, at first, but will ultimately be very mundane and boring in the long run.

Keep that in mind.

Adding my 2 cents to the ā€œimpossible to loseā€ discussion.
It indeed seems too cheap to die. I did that a hundred times and only once or twice lost something even remotely valuable. With original game it is rough enough that you lose your inventory, but with OCD/am I see a need for additional penalty. Not very painful but something to incentivize not dying. Iā€™m thinking of -1 reputation but that may be too much. Somewhere near -0.3 is bearable, maybe it should depend on faction (I.e. as a trader you are not expected to die often so maybe even -1 is OK, as a pirate or head hunter you are expected to die from time to time, so maybe -0.2 per death is OK).
The point is if you really hate someone, you can kill them a lot to reduce the reputation to 0-1 and then they will be forced to give up PvE base or pay huge rent.
I was also thinking of a simple monetary fee, but that seems too difficult to balance.

That idea seems really cool. I do agree we need that added, ā€˜damn I just lost at the gameā€™ feelingā€¦the rp is vital in 4.0 so making it so that you lose rp makes perfect sense. As a a hunter if Iā€™m constantly dying people will thing Iā€™m crap at my job so id lose some reputation. Instead of you just get rp for doibg x we need that plus if you do x you will lose rp.

Or how about disable OCD at all, until several weeks before wipe ?

Itā€™s really not encouraging (for an attacker and for a defender) to take/defend a base that is pretty sure nothing is in it.

hellooooooo will pre 4.0 blueprints work in 4.0 ? :yum:

haha, the exact discussion on the official forum. Short answer, yesā€¦but it will not be easy as it stands

For people who havenā€™t had a chance to check out the experimental, just a few things here to look forward to in 4.0 when it is releasedā€¦

big graphical updateā€¦

Forgot what colour has what goods in?

Whats this witchcraft?

Upgraded player model and a brand new flameā€¦multitool model

Tired of repairing every single block, even the ones hard to reach? no such issue here

(Repair bay)

a lot more guys, just a snippet to get you exited :grinning:

Still a lot of work needed to get 4.0 stable though, worth the wait for sure!
