Hehe i guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I think with the proposed config changes Rex has in mind we’re all going to have to go back to the drawing board anyways
Best regards, i’m off for the night so i’ll obsess over all new posts in the morning.
Its true that larger class size planets do cause more lag, but the lion’s share of the lag comes down to people abusing base limits on NA at least. These need to be addressed. Dragon’s teeth DO cause lag due to triangle counts and increased rendering time. I suggest a class 1 limit and a 1K block limit on hand built bases on GG.
GG Shouldn’t be a perfect stronghold, unassailable by others, it should be a risk as rexxxus has said.
@RexXxuS
to reduce congestion, maybe Super Gates should only exist in PVP and non building sectors.
that would help even out the traffic jam in areas like Strayom Sector space.
and to make areas like Strayom accessible, maybe add a neighboring sector with a small warp jump of like 10 pentax. in this new sector you cant build anything, and it features just a centrally located Gate, maybe a shop, kinda like the old peace keeper space. (oh and maybe a wipe every 24 hours )
Already seeing players packing up stuff into OCD and calling this season a wipe because they are tired of getting the rug pulled out from under them. So many hours go into designing ships to perform within the expected limits for an entire season, not to mention hand building bases this time around just to have it all thrown in the garbage bin.
It seems as if these limits are catered for all the new players coming into the server when there are so many of us that have playing the server for so long and have stuck here exclusively to play on this great server. Solo players and smaller factions im sure voted yes because they get crushed but its mainly due to their choices and the terrible ships many of them fly which is their fault really, which is understandable why they get mad.
As for the feedback: Class 1 cv is so stupid small i cant even believe its being mentioned. class 1 bases are almost just as stupid, maybe make it illegal to have the dragon teeth (spikes in the ground) but size 1 is just crazy.
3 faction hv’s is also ridiculous, unless the size 1 bases is implemented which ive stated is absurd. Now for hotspot orbits, 2 faction cv’s only? No more fun huge cv fights. I mean whats the point of even joining into a big faction anymore which i thought was the one of the issues last season was to many different factions teaming up. Rex i understand server performance is of utmost importance but class 1 across the board will just make the pvp so unsatisfying. cv;s are currently impossible to kill yes, I suggest class 4. I think class 5 bases is also a good limit and having atleast 5 faction hv’s instead of the 3 (for hotspot). Just my thoughts but please consider how hard the pvp people will be getting hit with these changes. We love what you do rex and by no means am i bashing you or the server but this is just my feedback on proposed changes.
agreed, just finished my new cv to hear about this craziness. i feel bad for ucka, he already removed his base on GG. The time he spent on it is now wasted. rip
Any chance we can get a summary of what your proposed changes will be after player feedback? Or are they still the same? I’m having a tough time keeping up here.
Thanks for replying to my comments. For the record I think you’re a brilliant coder and really understood that Empyrion alphas were lacking continuity and persistence for players over time, and, unlike anyone else, somehow figured out how to provide an answer to this problem. Before anything else, just want to pay my respects to you as an outstanding creator and servermaster.
I am, however, a bit troubled by your reply to my comment, about the 3 HV per faction on hotspots rule being very inconvenient for larger factions wanting to mine and have HV battles:
First of all, thank you for being honest about your intentions here, but I think that this is really misguided. People should want to buy your garage ships, because they want to buy them, not because arbitrary rules are put in place that force them to do so. Your garage ships are amazing but their purchase should never be compulsory. If this actually part of your motivation behind this very restrictive and inconvenient change, please rethink it in terms of what is best for your players. Thank you.
Why the hate against the dragon teeth? They are nothing more than blocks meant to serve a purpose, no different then blocks used for building a tower. The only argument is they are a deterrent from HVs rolling in and cannot use them for cover. It’s a legitimate tactic used in previous seasons by many factions and nobody complained about it then. You can’t say “oh so many triangles it creates lag” because damn near every major patch has introduced more lag. This is Eleon dragging feet by not optimizing their net code, and supposed to fix with the 8.2 patch. Will it? I doubt it, probably more stupid shit to increase the resolution for Zirax shits if you ask me.
All I see are lowering limits, first CVs, then SV class sizes, then block counts, now it’s base block counts, HV block counts. Why? Will it were come to an end? Let’s just limit thrusters while we are at it, to 2 in each direction. Remove cannon and minigun from CVs. Nerf RCS so that they only turn 1/4th what they do now. Lock light intensity and brightness to low.
We have tons of new people this season, is this really the impression we want to give? A subset of people don’t like something, so we sideline those that have been loyal the entire time, to appease them?
With bases i’m thinking of lowering it to say 4, and then if still they generate large amounts of lag then to 1. Otherwise nearly everything is going to be class 1 which just limits creative thinking and PVP options.
And why is that? Because we have been successful? Our tactics are working to prevent our base on GG from being overrun, so let’s change it to make it easier? All the other changes I listed above, were under the same circumstances.
NOTHING is set to stone yet and if I see people leaving now or mass recycle panic I can only shake my head.
So the summary for now gathering a lot of feedback.
What is going on at Friday 13th July?
Planets WON’T be wiped or put to lower Classes! This is a major thing, which requires wipes we are not ready to do yet. However for the next season I am considering to only have 1 PvE and PvP Class 5 planet with special missions / purpose. The rest will be 2, few Class 3. Donator planets Class 2.
My proposed new PvE Limits didn’t get much negative wind. So I’m going for them. While this means the HQ planets can have private structures now, my hope is that the global limits will prevent ruining them.
The Global Limits however are a major cut and I am seeking for more feedback about them now - don’t underestimate them and if you don’t know how they work, please ask.
PvP got massive feedback as expected. The change from my proposed limits so far looks like:
Hotspot Planets: Base Class limit of max. 3 (instead of 1) — taking still under consideration that most PvP bases are built near each other, stacking up their defense capabilities. (for the next season I am also open for more BAse block limit suggestions)
CV Block limit to 150 (instead of 100) — giving them a bit more health for high gravity planets
Hotspot Orbits: CV Class of 5 (instead of 1) — if Class 5 is a bit smoother than Class 7 it is maybe worth it.
Hotspot Planets + rest: 5 Faction HVs allowed (instead of 3) — 5 means that 5 alliances can battle on one planet. Increasing this to 10 for example will only allow ~2 alliances to battle at the same time on one planet (because of 25 Alliance HV limits). The problem with HVs are, they are mostly used as stationary defense system / Base additions. Limits should create decisions here for you…
Hotspot Orbits: max. 10 Faction and 20 Alliance CVs (instead of 2 and 5) — I don’t want to limit PvP, only abusive parking.
Is this fine for you as a first limit iteration? Or still too much?
Critical at the moment and in urgent need is the PvE overpopulation. (ships already get wiped in Strayom for no reason)
My PvP observations (except some other issues) just showing that BIG bases and lot of useless parked HVs near them needs to change.
