Will 5.1 be a wipe?

I’m glad you know what Xanif and I do for a living.

Class 3 5.0 or 5.1?

Also, “a few more FPS.” Can I pick where I get those frames because it’s irritating to be frozen for a whole 30 seconds at a time. I’d like some updates in between there.

So from what I’m reading here the hope is that smaller ships will generate less lagg due to less white space and render?

I’m also seeing talk of going to size class 2? That can’t be right. the perimeters for size class with devices would make a world of only size class 2 ships terrible. Low device count, no freedom for ship design, no different variations in ship concepts.

It seems alot more logical to just reduce block count rather than size class.

Also, judging by what i’ve seen on 5.1 test, the polygon counts are already making alot of my blueprints 2-3 times higher in size class. If that limiter is intended to be in the 5.1 HWS server ruleset for size class… well we are all going to need to remake a few ships. I have about 2 pvp ships that fit within the limits of 5.1 under size class 3 rules for HWS…

I see alot of people asking for smaller ships for less lagg and to be honest, I’m not positive that the lagg core issue is a result of the amount of render so much as it is the way the engine renders in the first place.

Blocks are based off of a coordinate block that sets their location and that is how they load in sequence. If you follow that understanding, it would lead you to realize that the core will always Always load before armor blocks etc meaning lagg coring is a basic mechanical flaw in the block load order that the devs will struggle with until they either change that or struggle with it indefinitely. The way they are tracking block generation on load ins or reload ins(which happen whenever something moves) is causing the issue far more so than the amount of blocks the client needs to render. I’m not saying render size isn’t a factor, just trying to point out its not the main or only one.

I think I at least partially agree with mordgier suggesting smaller size. I think it would add some good things to the game as far as increasing the value on ship efficiency and design.
I like the concept of having scaling. Allowing for larger ships to have more options and individual limits on size classes. Perhaps allowing 1 CV to be size class 5 per faction?

or even introducing some limits to add more balance to the game and prevent flying boxes of turrets on a stick for core ranging?
What if a size class 2 can only have so many turrets, so many RCS, etc. There are plenty of ways to make smaller ships rewarding and increase the use of other ship types in combat or out of it besides just a fast band aid solution of making everything smaller.
With a little thought and experimentation, we could make the game smoother and more fun without sacrificing the creativity of making ships and bases.
We are saying lets make the block count 15k. 10k. Ships are smaller and more equal. Id be fine with that tbh. It would be enjoyable to me. But to pretend that those pvp ships will be anything but 7-10k steel rams with 34 turrets on them is laughable. Its just a band aid solution based on the pure hope that lagg coring will be “fixed”.

@Rexxus

I would like to know what the lowest minimum device & block count you can gaurantee as of right now. Would at least 250 devices and 10k blocks be gauranteed for 5.1? Was originally planning on starting a new CV here this weekend but eh I feel like it would be a waste of time if the bp limits are going to drastically change.

On a side note, we had a short 5v5 last night and the FPS lag wasn’t too bad, not near as bad as it was last weekend before the mini patch. Problem was playfield stability with warping. Like 5 ppl’s ships warped to the next system, but left the players themselves behind. Then we try to warp sled to them, warp sled leaves us behind too, everyone trapped in Uranus lol can’t warp to even Medusa which is practically empty. The worse is when the playfield finally stabilizes, you go out to hopefully get your CV back, you go to your waypoint marker, but the ship is invisible and won’t render for the next 30 minutes.

yeah infos spreading around here there.
Not 100% confirmed but read it up here:

About warping… yeah, we somehow need to fix this finally
